Susan, the Huntington is closer to you than I (I'm up in the Land o' Rice a Roni & Cable Cars). Have you done any research there? Any good university libraries with manuscript collections worthy of visiting in Southern California?

Gary

Hi Susan

Sorry it took so long..yes, I spent 15 years in the Marines...ironically, I was just browsing over my Time Life "The Civil War" series...on page 23 of the volume entitled "The Fight For Chattanooga" there is a picture of some Union troops. The caption reads "A youthful drummer boy stands in front of the 19th Michigan's regimental drum corps in a photograph taken in the winter of 1862-63. Most of the men were taken prisoner the following spring at Thompson's station when Confederate cavalry under Earl Van Dorn surrounded the Michigan troops and the greater part of three other Federal Regiments."

Where is he buried? If it is close, maybe I could get a picture of it for you. Custersluck13
