I'm not a civil war reenactor, my family and I reenact a bit earlier time (pre-1840's) and are pretty specific to the 1750s fur trade/french/indian era, but I love the forum. Always great information and always interesting.
I do have a question - in additon to battle reenactments do you have any competitions? Specifically shooting competition: cannon, muzzleloaders, pistols?
I like experiencing and recreating history as well as the next guy or gal, but what I really enjoy are the competitions our club puts on. I know a couple of guys who do both (C.W. and pre-1840) - but never thought to ask if they have shoots or other competitions. So do ya?
There is a group called the North South Skirmish Association that does target practice with all types of black powder guns including artillery

Nope, never actually tried it. I stick to reenactments. It takes enough of my money hehe.

Just looked in on the the local reenactors portraying life in Illinois during the 7 Years' War (also known as the French and Indian War, but you knew that). Don't know but couple of the guys personally, but both of them are N-SSA. Seems that's where one goes if one wants to actually compete with period firearms.
Where do you do your reenacting? In these parts, we have a fine reproduction of New Salem (where Lincoln spent his pre-lawyer years). During the summer, there are reenactors with your interest presenting arts and crafts of the time. I hope you continue to have fulfillent with your chosen time.

Really! It's time to update the pictures (and throw in one of Remington and Winchester).

yeah, I know! I have a new pic of the boy, but not one of the dogs!
if Winchester lives long enough I will try to get a pic this weekend! (she keeps jumping over the fence to swim in the neighbors pool! I'm gonna end up killing her!)
The time to worry will be when Adam jumps the fence to swim in the neighbor's pool.
