Default Kinda new, Vermonter here,

but don't hold that against me. I've been a buff on the Civil War for decades. Not an historian, but read everything I can get my hands on about it.

I'm a retired police officer, still compete in rifle and handgun competition, and am a fanatical firearms buff.

I had several ancestors who fought in the late war, Union side as befits Vermonters, also one maternal ancestor who was With Ethan Allen at Ft Ticonderoga during the Revolution, when we were all Yankees.

Hey Chuck, glad to see you posting on the board. Am enjoying your contributions. Keep 'em coming. One of these days I'm going to make it to your state to see the beauty I've always heard about. Good to have you on the board.

Despite my rants, I'm still living here.

Vermont is classic Norman Rockwell New England. You won't find anywhere else in New England quite like it. And, if you run into some tall older guy mumbling to himself about foreigners invading the state, it's probably me.

Hi Chuck,

Been to Vermont numerous times and it's a mighty pretty state. Plenty of history in the area and modern freaky stuff like Bennington College for the mentally soft but affluent parents (meaning bucks to throw away for a wasted education). Best thing about Bennington was the airport with that fleet of DC-3s painted olive drab and with the black & white invasion stripes. Check out my homepage if you want to read some interesting tidbits from the Civil War. I've been researching it for eight years now and had some articles published.

Gary

My wife has grandparents in the Vermont area... somewhere near Burlington. Good people; welcome and I hope you enjoy the site.

Hello, Chuck58.

My great-grandfather fought in the Civil War as a member of the 16th Vermont. On his behalf, I welcome you to the website.

Though I live in Pennsylvania now, my home town is just across the New York state line to the west of Bennington (if you have a decent map, you'll probably be able to figure out why I call myself Hoosier), so I've visited your state many times.

Chuck58,

Welcome to the board from a dyed-in-the-blue-wool, Yankee from Ohio.

Look forward to talking and debating with you on the various threads of the board.

Glad to have you with us.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Thanks all. I've been reading various threads and wish I'd found this forum much earlier. I see a lot of very good info and opinions here.

Welcome to the group, Chuck. I don't recall that I've been on the ground in Vermont, but I do know I flew over your beautiful state many times when I was in Maine.

Regards,
Cash

Welcome from Texas. I lived in New Hampahire as a kid for 2 years and during that time visited Vermont once. Nice place.
