I just want to say thanks for having this board. I have looked at several sites and this looks like a great site.
I have never been interested in the Civil War until Valetine's Day when I ran across a battle map from an area not too far from where I was raised as a child. My Grandpa farmed some of the land that a battlefield was on and I recognized almost all of the landmarks right off the bat. I have done alot of research since then and it looks like this is my new hobby.
Tommorrow I have a group coming to explore the battlefields and hopefully we will confirm the finds. As soon as we confirm the finds and get them recorded I will post my findings.
Pretty interesting stuff and I have learned a ton.
Welcome to the best danged CW board on the web. Yes. I am the same

I was digging a post hole on my land once and hit something hard. I reached in and pulled up a small railroad spike - about 18 inches down.
I gave it to a buddy who was a train hobbyist - he told me it was from a CW era small gauge track.
My place is in the woods Son - how the heck it got there I'll never know.
History is everywhere.
Hope you make some fantastic finds.
Swamp, welcome to the board. That's really great that you are able to explore the land where a battle occurred. Please post any photos or artifacts you may find. TomH, on this board, is an avid relic hunter in Gettysburg and other places. I should probably say "projectile expert", for him. Actually I don't really know what he does but it has to do with the CW, and he's very involved.
