Default Hello from Western North Carolina

Sam Grant told me to come here and intoduce myself...so here goes.
My name is James Cowan and I hail from Asheville, N.C.
I have been a history nut for as long as I can remember.
My 3rd great-grandfather was James W. Terrell. He served the confederacy as a Captain in The Thomas Legion.
I am always wanting to learn more and I am looking forward to reading ALL of the post in each forum.
Sam Grant...the reason for this avatar...well...to be honest...I think it's just funny.

James,

Welcome to the forum.

I hope you get comfortable and feel right at home here, as we do have a good, fiesty bunch of folks with plenty of opinions on the late war.

We look forward to your views and future posts.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Lots of us Carolina mountain folk have numbers of one sort or another. Since a lot of us are cousins, that's one way of keeping up with kin? James, welcome to the board. As a native of Ashe County, always good to see a southerner from down the ridge. I learn a lot from these yanks, and hope to hear more from you! We ain't outnumbered by much, so come on along. I believe we're finally starting to win the war, but it may take a while.

A great moment of some misunderstanding, no doubt.

I only got arrested once at the age of 15, for shoplifting, which apparently did not merit a nice keepsake mug shot.

Sam, when we were 15, cameras were in their infancy.

Neil, I doubt an artist would want to look at the pair of us long enough to produce a sketch?
