Greetings from Germany. After changing my interest a little bit from the F&I War,AWI to th War between the States, i'm searched the web and found this place here.I'm shooting muzzleloaders since 1990.
When i looked at the forum, i found i have a lot to read.
Welcome to the board! I hope you enjoy your stay here and join in on some of our debates on different topics and threads.
Are you a native of Germany and from which part do you come from and where do you live?
I had the honor to visit your country two times, although both times were some time ago. I visited Augsburg, Germany, in the early 1970s and Munich in early 1990, both times as a guest of the United States Army. I found the people to be quiet and friendly and the countryside quite beautiful.
How did you become interested in Civil War history?
Please, feel free to join in and again, welcome.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Yip, I'm a native from Germany, living in the north. It's 12 miles to Denmark.
I have always be interested in the history of the States.
Started with the F&I War,AWI.When the movie Gettysburg comes out 1993 my interest for the CW goes up.
But in the last years my interest goes back to the F&I War.
And now i'm coming back to the CW.
Greetings from a stormy Northsea.
I favor the M1841... though I've fired quite a few others to include originals: Kentucky rifle, M1861, P53, Sharps carbine, Smith Carbine and others.

These are at the moment my guns:
Bucks County cal.45 made by S.Mau
Pedersoli Brown Bess cal.75
Pedersoli Frontier Flint cal.45
Tulle de Chasse 20 gauge
Remington cal.44
Le Page Pistol cal.44
Charles Moore Flint cal.45
and a Uberti Henry Rifle 'Lincoln' cal.44-40
As you can see the Remington and the Henry are the only CW guns.I'm looking for Sharps carbine,a Navy1851 and a Stage Coach Gun.
That's quite an arsenal you have. My greatgrandfather deserted the Union army in 1863, taking with him a Colt navy revolver. No one knows what happened to it.

As a note avoid the Italian Sharps repops... they aren't worth the money. If you want a Sharps you have to go original ($1500) if you're lucky or go whole hog and get a Shiloh. The Italians only look like a Sharps... providing you have never handled an original. The Shiloh... are a Sharps from top to bottom and... I WANT ONE!!! Ummm better make sure the wife wasn't looking last time I got a rifle she got a couch, before that a house... I can't seem to win for losing
I own a Navy Arms M1841 converted to the Colt Standard for my 4th MN/2nd IA VI impression. A M1861 Springfield by Miroku and currently have possesion of the unit loaner which is an Armisport M1841 Rifled Musket. And my old Armisport P53 is temporarily in my possesion while the current owner is deployed. Used to own an original Parker Hale and it was quite nice. Incidently that M1841 will dot the I on a No Parking sign at 200 yards... I love that rifle.

Yip, i heard it before that the Italian Percussion Sharps are not so good.Did you use linen or paper cartridges. Are you cast your own bullets?
In my Shooting Club a guy owns a Pedersoli Percussion Sharps. He used the brass cartridges and had a lot of problems to get an accurate group size.
I'm just divorced,so there is no problem with the wife. But i know what you mean. When i bought my custom made Bucks County for €2300 (ca.$3000),wow .......

I have fired gut, linen, cigarette paper & regular paper cartridges w/ the linen being probably the best performing in that there was never a shred left in the bore or barrel after firing. Fella who owned the Shiloh Sharps was using tea bags and it worked marvelously. He used to use gut (pork intestine) but found the tea bags worked as well and were quicker, cheaper and easier to make... and he didn't have to fight his cat for them.
