Hello, I wanted to say I am glad that I came across this site, I found that your post are informative and the members here appear to have fun. We tend to forget to do that from time to time.
I am a member of a group forming in East Texas based on a unit {Guess who} Just kidding the 18th was in Walkers Texas Divison and served in 20 engagements and 5 major battles and was formed in these very counties in East Texas.
Sorry didn't mean to ramble on, we will have a web site up very soon, or so our web master says....I will pass it on when she become alive and kicking.
I look forward to learning, we never stop do we? Well, unless of course you where one of those instructors I had back at college.
Welcome to the board! I hope you will decide to join us on our other threads and contribute to the debates there. Always good to hear from a new member.
You're right to say that there are some pretty nice folks here and the board is active and friendly. Just settle in and enjoy yourself.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

__________________ My dear mother:- I have come safely through two more terrible engagements with the enemy, that at South Mountain and the great battle of yesterday (Antietam). Our splendid regiment is almost destroyed. We have had nearly 400 men killed and wounded in the battles. Seven of our officers were shot and three killed in yesterday's battle and nearly 150 men killed and wounded. All from less than 300 engaged. The men have stood like iron....Maj. Rufus Dawes, 6th Wisconsin Volunteers
Welcome from South Texas. You will have a great time here.
