It's the fault of that obnoxious Corporal who is masquerading as an officer. Shane as a General? We are in serious trouble; he's devious enough as a Corporal I fear the outcome with him in command of several thousand men. Sleep one night in his basement and now I'm a CW re-enactor! I work graveyard shift... he still syas he can get me into the hobby. What is vacation again?

Does anyone know how I ended up in his "Serial?" Just because I was Navy does not mean I tie chicken bones into my beard or do other stupid stuff. I've never been that drunk; at least not that I remember.

Sucker...

That's what you get for being interested in big boom sticks. You have plenty of money... you work in a ******. It's called gambling; at the end of a shift who has all the chips in front of them? B U D G E T... come on man, its not like food ever goes out of print.

Welcome to the fold, Niteowl.

Corporal Steele isn't too bad. Just remember not to bet against him. He normally doesn't bet, and he never gambles. He only bets on sure things.

A hardy welcome to nightowl. Navy man, eh? Good for you. No bones in your beard; but did you get any weird tattoos? Jeez, I'm sucked in.....$1700 in a uniform and rifle and others odds and ends. Don't get to use them much in Northern Wisconsin. Got plenty of stares and comments when I wore my uniform to work on July 1st. Hardee hat, frock coat, brogans and gaiters are HOT. I don't know how they did it!

Our splendid regiment is almost destroyed. We have had nearly 400 men killed and wounded in the battles. Seven of our officers were shot and three killed in yesterday's battle and nearly 150 men killed and wounded. All from less than 300 engaged. The men have stood like iron....Maj. Niteowl,

Just breath deep, click your brogans together and repeat, over and over, "There's no place like a good, Civil War reenactment..."

Welcome to the board,

Niteowl:

You have my sympathies, sir. Shane can be an SOB. Sleeping on the ground in a tent not made by Coleman, pretending you are someone who you are not, missing the games on Sunday, eating what amounts to silage just so you can march some more and get to shoot your gun once or twice.

Count your blessings. You are able to arise from the cold, hard ground. Drink some really gross coffee, choke down some salt pork and a board, and perform your duties as a soldier in whatever army you're portraying. You can do this until your legs and feet start to fail, and even after if your dedication is strong enough.

Meanwhile, you will have the companionship of some of the best and most sincere citizens this country is capable of producing. And you can be a first-hand observer of your history.

I envy your youth. You can veg out later. Keep a cooler in your car and hide the cans. Camping can be tolerable.

Welcome aboard. I look forward to hearing of your experiences and your growing appreciation of abusing your comfort. (I was going to say abusing yourself, but that sounded a bit discolored.)

Next time we get up to see one of Shane's shindigs, I'll look you up.
Ole

****, Ole, that's a bleak outlook. It's really not that bad.

Then again, I somewhat enjoy the punishment. I like to get a picture of what the life of the average Civil War soldier was like. Granted, the picture may be a bit less than accurate, it has still given me a strong sense of national pride and a huge respect for both the Union and Conferderate fighting men.
