Red face Hello!

Hi my name is Ken and I'm a novice, not only here but to Civil War Re-enacting. I am hoping to join a regiment and make friends. I have long been both a scholar as well as a teacher of Civil War history. And now after many years of both. I'd like to take part in the living history aspect.
I have over time participated in other eras of living history/re-enacting but the Civil War era has always been a passion of mine and I have always returned to it.
One might even say I am called to it by blood as I count two Civil War Generals as my forebearers.
As I stated before, I have taken part in other historical re-enactments. I have portrayed such great historical persons as Henry VIII, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Theodore Roosevelt. As well as smaller rolls but no-lesser persons.
And have at times been active in the theatre. I have authored several papers on various historical persons, events and subjects. And have even published a book on the subject of the innocence of King Richard III. I am currently self re-tired and am caring for my infant daughter Clare, while I pursue my various endevors. I am co-curator of the Peterson Collection of Archeology and Maritine antiquties.
I am currently looking for a regiment to join. I would be interested in joining a
regiment as a surgeon/operator in the Confederate Army. I am well equipted to perform in character and in uniform as well as supplying my own appointments such as surgical, dental instruments and medical equipment. The only piece of equipment I do not now posess is a hospital tent, which I intend to purchase as soon as I have been accepted in to a unit/regiment.
My wife has recently joined me as a a re-enactor. As a daughter of a premire
American historian (modesty prohibits ahem) she is knoledgable in history.
She has experssed a wish to me to portray Dr. Orrianna Moon the well known
Civil War era surgeon and a woman history persaudes us to believe to have been one of only two women to have been commissioned as a Confererate
officer. She is also willing to portray as a nurse in the Civil War era.
Hope someone will contact me with any hints, help or offers. Many thanks
Ken

Hey Ken: Glad to have you on the boards. There are quite a few reenactors here on these boards, who could probably help you. They are very accurate in their language, clothing, speech, creating and perfecting their personas etc. I know very little about it but have learned some since I've been reading on this site. Again, welcome. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

Terry

Ken, I'll echo Raymonds suggestion. If he can't help you out I'm not certain who can.

There are a lo of good medical units out there. THough to be honest all the ones I know are Union. 4th & 16th US are both top notch for their medical knowledge. In fact last spring I was able to attend one of their seminars and I admit it was quite informative.

As to equipage... remember that many of the CS surgeons traveled almost as light as their Infantry comrades. A Hospital tent may not be needed, I might suggest a simple wall w/ a fly or make yourself a portable brush arbor instead of a fly.

Good Luck Take a look at the re-enactor forum mayhaps you'll find some useful info.

Smile Thank you all so much.

I thank you all so very much and look forward to our virtual meetings. And please forgive me for any compu-technical errors, I am still new to the
modern virtual world. I spent most of my time in dusty old libraries with my nose in a stack of books. It was not until I met my wife and she introduced me to the wonders of cyberspace, that I became more at ease at the computer. I currently reside in Laurel Maryland but am moving to McClean Virginia in 4-6 months. I would be interested in any unit near to my future home.
