Although a nortern boy, born an raised i trace my family [maternal side] back to Vir. in the late 1700s. They then moved up through Pound Gap to settle near Perrysville KY by 1800. So i guess I`ve got the best of both worlds working for me[along with a little Shawnee Gr.Gr.Grandmother]. Had people who fought on both sides, one who rode with Morgan and his brother who fought at Perrysville, his first battle, then deserted. So i guess my heart is with the western theatre even though those easterns get most of the ink.
Sure hope I can contribute and above all learn from ya`ll. Seems like a well put together unit here.
Welcome, and I am certain that you will enjoy your stay here. Although I'm a foreigner, I do have several relatives who fought on the Union side out of Massachusetts, and I also have a special interest in the Battle of Perryville.
Il look forward to learning from you and again...welcome.
That goes for me too. Hope you enjoy your stay. Perhaps we can encourage more discussion on the western and southern theater. (Dont' tell anyone, but a lot of these folks are yankees.) Perryville was a bit early in the war for me since my folks mostly joined the fray after 1862, but it is a most interesting battle and is part of the saga of the Army of Tennessee. I'm just south of you in Nashville and earger to learn more about the war in Kentucky. My civil war 'knowledge' is centered around folks from upper east TN, southwestern VA, western NC and south Alabama and south Georgia. If I can help from Nashville, please let me know. Come on down and visit Ft. Negley when you get a chance. It is now open to the public after 140 years of neglect and is worth the trip.
Welcome to the board and I would be very interested to hear more about your ancestors.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Yep. Western is really overlooked and there is a strong bias against anything that didn't involve Lee & the Armee of Nord-thun Virginia. BTW, Nashville is nice and I love your state Museum there. Plenty o' guns and plenty of Sybil Wa-ah things to see. Sgt. York is just up the street and Murfreesboro and Fort Donelson are nearby too.
