Salutations All from the Mason and Dixon border, which I can see from the window of my house! I'm new to this site but have been studying for some time as I'm a volunteer (aren't we all) curator of a museum in Port Deposit (Cecil County, Maryland) with a rather extensive Civil War collection. Currently, we're gearing up to publish 100 or so original Civil War letters from the officers and enlisted men of the 1st Maryland Light Artillery, Snow's Battery B for the first time ever - which is pretty exciting. I've become so embedded in 1861 to 1865 while working on this project that I was hoping to chat with like minded souls, blue and gray alike, as coming from a border state in a family dating back to the 1600s in the area, my ancestors took up arms as both Yanks and Rebs. Anway, that's a bit about me and I hope to hear from you. I'm especially interested in learning more about McClellan's "Great Civil War Mule School" at Perryville (not that Perryville) the one in Cecil County, Maryland on land called Perry Point. It existed briefly in 1862 and I have a bit of information but not enough, to my way of thinking. Well, I'm off in the pursuit of happiness, Erika
Welcome to the site, Erika. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here. I'm also sure you'll learn everything you want to know, and more during your time here.
There's a thread called "Soldiers' Stories" in the Civil War History Chat, under "Secession and Politics." I'm not sure just what it has to do with secession and politics, but there are transcriptions of a number of soldiers' letters in that thread.
Always glad to 'see' a new face on the board. Hope you enjoy your time here and please, don't feel afraid to jump in! Just be prepared to enjoy and to learn as both effects are usually 'packaged' here!
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Thanks everyone for the warm greetings & salutations. I'm already having a ball just reading some of the past postings, comments, thoughts, questions and answers. I'm very happy to have found this site and such wonderful souls keeping it alive.
