Greetings from the Great State of Ohio, celebrating its 200th Birthday this year with all types of interesting and historical events all over the state!

My name is Jan and I live near the Great Lake Erie in Port Clinton, OH. My hobby is mainly the Civil War and taking care of my husband, retired Lt. Col. Richard C., USAF. I am also the president and founder of the most recent Daughters of Union Veterans Tent in Ohio, the Lucy Seaman Bainbridge Ohio Bicentennial Tent #150, Fremont, OH. A female has to be a lineal (direct) descendant of a Union veteran of the Civil War. My ancestor was Daniel Baker, Co. D, Third Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. I have two peripheral ancestors, Benjamin F. Ponitous, 29th OVI, and Isaac Weiker, 164th OVI. Also, I am the founder and outgoing president of the Third Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Descendants Association, which meets in Norwalk, OH, each month.

My husband's ancestor, his great grandfather, was in the 96th OVI as a Corporal.

We have between us 11 children. We are very busy people! Thanks.
Jan

Great to read the thread. One of my great great great gandfathers, John Pray was one of the first settlers in North West Ohio. Most of my forefathers paid their money to avoid service in the Civil War, but my Grandmother remembered a Great Uncle who served and was imprisoned in Andersonville. She said that as a small child she remembered him as always being thin and sickly.

However I picked up the Civil War bug as a small child and it is nice to make contact with the Ohio contingent.
