Gunsmoke, I love it! Hope it means you're ready for a gunfight! And a good forum with great people. Welcome aboard, and prepare to learn.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Gunsmoke,
Do you have a specific area of interest yet?
What book/books have you read so far, and which ones are planned
in the near future.

As of now, I'am mostly interested, in the war in general. I've been reading Battle Cry of Freedom, and the memoirs, of Sherman and Grant. I don't know what book I may seek, after these.

Battle Cry of Freedom is a fine book, especially for a overall view of the war. After reading this one I found a set of War For the Union, by Allen Nevins, which McPhearson used quite a bit as a source.
You might still find this set of Nevins in paper back for 19.99. He is a excellent U.S. historian, and covers more deeply than does McPhearson.
I have Shemans memoirs here somewhere in a web page format, but not read it yet. I have been reading, from time to time, Sherman's Civil War, Selected Correspondence of Willian L. Sherman. As for Grant, also a great book. I found a Library Of America printing, which contains 174 letters of his, and a large number of them are to Julia. I also have 1 volume of Grants Papers, edited by John Simon.
I try to read a variety of material and not just battles. General American history as pertaining to the civil war, Banking, Economics, diaries, including Generals, the privates, and even of slaves, and the navy war also.
Right now I'm working on 3 books. Hardtack and Coffee by John D. Billings, this is for a online book discussion group. "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, (written by herself)"-Harriet Jacobs, edited by Jean Fagan Yellin. This is for another online book discussion group. Then I'm working thru "Gettysburg, A Testing of Courage", by Noah Trudeau. After this one is finished will move on to some books on Pea Ridge, Praire Grove, and 1 on Gen. Price to get ready for a muster in Ark/MO, in late June.
Considering the diversity of the group, you should be able to pry into a lot of different minds for information, and have fun at the same time. So welcome to the group.
