I am a first timer

Hi. My sister is a Civil War buff and she has always bugged me to learn to like the Civil War. Her name is "RallyRound" and she never stops talking about the Civil War. She told me about this site and told me that I should come here to learn more about the Civil War. So far, I am enjoying it here and am planning to come back more often! For a start, I have one question I would like answered.

If the answer exists, who was the first black man to sign up to be a soldier in the war? I always wondered. Well thank you so much for trying to help. I greatly appreciate it.

I had no idea she wanted to learn about the Civil War!

Well, I am sure everyone here will be able to get her interested. I know I couldn't.
