Howdy, folks! I'm totally new to this kind of discussion, but what the heck... In the short time I've peeked in on this site, I've seen some really interesting discussions, so I hope to learn a lot. You probably won't read much from me, but I'll be around. I guess I can say one thing about myself that might indicate my interest in the Civil War: My three-year-old son is named Joshua Lawrence. I look forward to reading and learning many new things here.

Ahhh yes, Sabertooth... I'll always remember the one they pulled out of a tar pit out California way. It was estimated to have weighed about 500 kilos and been most of 18' from nose to tail. That's the size on quite a few pickup trucks. Well, I'd rather not run into one of those cats on a dark... or any time for that matter.

Welcome aboard, you'll like the site.

Howdy Wes! Welcome to one of the best Civil War boards around. Settle in, put your feet up and get ready to join in the debates, as we have plenty here. Be prepared to present your own opinion and back it up when it is challenged, as it surely will be, and have a great time.

Glad to have you on board.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'm sending this post in to check and see if all the gizmos are working (picture, sigfile, etc...) I look forward to a lot of interesting discussions.

Welcome here, Wes! Look around and have fun. Your son certainly has a name to be proud of.

Joshua knows who he is named after, of course, but at 3.5 years of age (almost), he doesn't understand the concept of warfare, or true heroism, is all about. In this day and age of jaded kids and heroes who are steroid-created monsters, I can honestly say that I have a hero. He may not be proud of his name just yet, but I'm going to do everything I can to see that he learns to be...

One thing I have noticed is that many people use photos other than their own portraits, and since my ugly mug is nothing to write home about (unless you are writing Gothic horror...) I found somebody better looking to use. If I'm saying he's my hero, I suppose I should let folks know, eh? What do you think?
