Although I'm a history buff (Ancient history, WWI, Soviet revolution and history are favorites), I'd never had much interest in the Civil War until recently. Watching the film "Gettysburg" caused something to click -- What on Earth was Lee thinking? I've been reading everything I can find for the past 2 or 3 months, mostly Eastern campaign histories. I'm a Northerner, having grown up and lived almost my whole life in NYC, and I must admit that I root for the North when I read campaign histories and die a thousand deaths when I read about the North's often catastrophic defeats, particularly in the Eastern theater.
An attorney by day, other interests/hobbies include building stereos (mostly tube amps), woodworking (mostly making speakers and subwoofers) and playing really lousy golf.
We'll try and forgive your attorney tendancies and remember that you share an interest in the formative moment of US History. Ahhh tube technology, old school! I miss the old tube tech.
OK, we have a lawyer, must make a note that we have a lawyer... no more lawyer shark comparisons.

Welcome to the board .I too grew up on the northern side of the mason dixon line here in Illinois, but since I became interested in the conflict I have tried to see the whole picture from both sides, with a slight grey shade (well, it is southern Illinois LOL)
Again I welcome you to a great board and hope you enjoy the posts and people as much as I do
Welcome. My favorite book is Glen Tucker's "High Tide at Gettysburg." Since then, I've read numerous books that are related to that battle. If you visit, plan to spend at least four days there. Bring a bicycle for a slow tour. It'll help you get around quick yet is slow enough for you to enjoy the area.
Gary -- I must confess that I've never visited a CW site, not even Gettysburg, so thanks for the tips. However, since any visit I make will be with my wife, I'm not sure she'll be that patient with me! So far, the only Gettysburg book I've read is the Sears book. I'm trying to read books on different campaigns to get a better feel, but when I get back to Gettysburg I'll get the Tucker. Again, thanks.
Shane -- In the stereo world, that "old tube technology" still rules.
Everybody else -- Don't worry about the lawyer jokes. I deal with sleazy lawyers every day (obviously, I'm always on the side of the angels) and have seen it all.
Welcome to the site and enjoy your stay here. Read over some of the other threads, form an opinion, and then jump right in! I think you will enjoy your time here and I like the idea that another 'man in blue' has shown up!
Sincerely,
Unionblue

Greetings one and all. Mark another one in the newbie category. My name is William Burton, I am a re-enactor (3rd USCT) based in Philadelphia and I'm preparing to take the Licensed Battlefield Guide this Saturday. Wish me luck. Thanks all
