Enjoy your stay here.

Hi,
My name is Jenna, and I am a civilian Civil War re-enactor looking to gather more information on the Civil War, it's participants and the home front. From what I have looked at on this site, it looks like you all cover allot of these topics. I have been doing this for only about a year and a half, and I have learned that the more you learn the less it seems you really know.
My whole family had gotten into re-enacting, with my brother in artillary (portraying Wyatt's battery and has been doing this for 5 years), my parents (civilian), and my husband and 4 year old son (my husband portrays a blacksmith, with a traveling blacksmith shop, including a 1860-1870 forge) and myself ( I portray a post mistress with the mail, and am also researching photography and fashion)
I look forward to meeting you all and look forward to many discussions with all of you. I am enthusiastic and hope that all of you are as well.
And welcome to the board. I am quite sure you will find many interesting topics here. May I suggest that you start with the Poke Sack. There are various threads there concerning ladies of the era, in their various roles, from spies, to the homefront and a little bit of everything in between.
I hope you will have fun and give us some information about your reenacting experiences. We have a thread for that too!
Welcome aboard, and don't be shy.
Till we meet again, I remain YMOS,
Thea

Hello, Jenna, and welcome. You're right, there is plenty of information on this website that should appeal to anyone interested in the Civil War.
So you reenact as a postmistress.
I live in a town a little way north of Gettysburg. Our chief claim to Civil War fame is that J.E.B. Stuart's troops rode through here prior to the battle of Gettysburg. They didn't enter into any significant hostilities while they were in town, but they did take the postmaster's jacket from him.
Maybe if you'd been our postmistress, they would have been a little more chivalrous to you.
Welcome! I'm sure you'll like it here. It sounds like you and yours have really gotten involved with reenacting. I've played with the idea of civilian reenacting, but just can't seem to get off my duff!
Welcome to our board! I see that you and your entire family is involved in reenacting. That is how I got started into this board, by kinda putting the cart before the horse. I got started with the uniforms, marches, drills, guns & equipment and THEN got interested in the reason WHY all those people from long ago fought the war!
You will absolutely enjoy your time here and find out many historical and interesting takes on the history of the war. Don't be afraid to pitch in and let yourself be heard. You many get 'battered' and 'bruised' at times, but you will ALWAYS learn something.
Sincerely,
Unionblue

To all: Thank you for the hiddy ho! I will look forward to talking with allot of you.
Ok...Ray, get off your duff and get out there and do it!! I never camped before in my life till I started doing this. The first time the temp was 45 degrees at night, our heater went out during the night, so we put all of our blankets on our then 3 year old, and we froze! But it was great! It's deffinatly not a cheap hobby. We just sunk another $400 into a new tent ( we have one that is about 25yrs. old and well, very hot since it is a heavy canvas) and the blacksmith shop is an expensive endevor. Anyone needing anything, let me know, for my hubby sells all that he makes.
Neil- from the looks of it, you are a well respected member of this list and I look forward to learning from you and others.
Thea- Thank you for the suggestion. I am not familiar with how these list boards work, so any suggestions any of you have I would love to hear.
And as for my exploits as a post mistress, I would certainly hope that Mr.Stuart would have been more chivalrous if I had been in charge back then.
Thank you again for the warm welcome, and if any of you wish to chat off list let me know and I will forward you my email addy.
