Today's Harrisburg Patriot-News contains an editorial calling for increased funding to be given to the Gettysburg National Military Park for the purchase of privately owned land within the boundaries of the park.

While their hearts are in the right place, one might wish that they could have found someone to write this editorial who would have been sufficiently knowledgeable to realize that the general in command of the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg was not George McClellan .

Perhaps you are not giving him enough credit. Perhaps in calling it "McClellan's army" he is taking the broad view that after McClellan took command, he put an indellible stamp on the army and from then on it was McClellan's army, others just commanded it from time to time.

Excellent point. But at least they are talking about it.

Yep, I also take a couple different takes on this.

1). As timewalker mentioned, that the AOP had inherited a character of timidity and caution from the vestiges of McClellan's command.

2). The Harrisburg Patriot-News has a lousy reporting/editorial staff.

I'd think both apply.
