Default News of the day

I'm trying to find news storys archived from any newspaper(s) of the day, during the war. If you have any please post them up, if you want. The English language, written and spoken at that time can be pretty interesting. The stories are current, much like "breaking news" is today.

Note: You may have to fill out a short form to register with the Times to be able to view some of these articles. It is free and takes only a minute. It's well worth it, IMO.

July 24, 1861, Wednesday
Page 1, 1639 words

Public feeling grows somewhat more settled and resolute in regard to the defeat of Sunday. The first reports brought by the stragglers and fugitives from the Army, and marked by all the exaggerations of men in a panic, created a feeling of consternation and intense alarm. [ END OF FIRST PARAGRAPH ]

Default "The News in New York"

April 13, 1861, Wednesday
Page 1, 539 words
Yesterday was a day of excitements. Rumors apparently well grounded concerning the progress of affairs at Charleston flitted through Wall-street, pervaded the thoroughfares and produced sensations of surprise, indignation and rejoicings, according to the nature of the mind to which they were brought.
