I just saw this today. Anyone near Biloxi could see the progress of the Beauvoir restoration and help with the effort:
The grand tradition of celebrating Confederate
> Memorial Day at Beauvoir in
> Biloxi, Mississippi, continues this year with
> festivities kicking off at 2 PM,
> this Saturday, April 21st, even as rebuilding has
> commenced on Pres. Davis'
> grand old home!
>
> We will have cannons, rifles, wreaths, and a
> wonderful speaker -- National
> SCV Commander-in-Chief Hon. Chris Sullivan!
>
> While your simple presence in the audience is of
> inestimable value to us, we
> would also like to invite your, your Camp's, your
> group's, and all our many
> friends' active participation in this year's event.
>
> We hope that our Compatriots from Louisiana,
> Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee
> will come for the festivities.
>
> We are also asking all other friends of Confederate
> Heritage to join us --
> the UDC, the OCR, the CofC, etc.
>
> We are requesting that your Camp or group bring a
> wreath to place on the Tomb
> of the Unknown Confederate Soldier during the
> service. (You will have to
> take your wreath back home with you, as there is
> currently no extra storage space
> at Beauvoir.)
>
> While we have a rifle squad, we would like to see
> its numbers swell to the
> breaking point, so, by all means, grab your musket
> and come on down!
>
> Likewise, we have cannons coming, but would be
> delighted to field a full
> battalion of artillery, so, again, please bring your
> piece if you are free on
> Saturday!
>
> We are very weak in the "Taps" department, as your
> humble correspondent has
> been "tapped," so to speak, for this honor.
> However, since I never advanced
> beyond 3rd Chair Trumpet (Junior Varsity Band) and
> am recovering from recent lip
> surgery (ouch!), I would be more than willing to
> yield this coveted honor to
> a better hornsman or hornslady! (I am not above
> bribery here!)
>
> While we are currently scheduled to have other
> period music, constraints
> involving a loud generator may preclude instrumental
> music. We may as a group, as
> an alternative, sing a couple of classic Confederate
> tunes, like "The Bonnie
> Blue Flag" and, of course, "Dixie"!
>
> Entry to Beauvoir will be at the rear, at the
> cemetery, from Beauvoir Road
> (between the MS Gulf Coast Coliseum and Beauvoir).
>
> Those wishing to actively participate in this most
> important and symbolic
> ceremony should be on-site by 1 PM.
>
> Those merely wishing to attend should be on-site by
> 1:45 PM.
>
> I hope and trust that we will see your Camp or group
> represented at this
> year's memorial! Heck, just bring the whole Camp or
> group and all your families
> to share in the fun!
>
>
> Last year, we had the best-ever Confederate Memorial
> Service at Beauvoir,
> according to all accounts. With your and your Camp
> or group's active
> participation this year, we will surpass that mark
> in even better honoring our cherished
> Confederate forebears!
>
> Media coverage is anticipated, and nothing makes us
> look better in the eyes
> of the media and the public than a huge turnout at a
> pro-Confederate event.
> With your help, we can make this the Confederate
> media event of the year!
>
> There's no more important place for a MS Division
> SCV Member to be this
> Saturday than at Beauvoir!
>
> And there is no better place for any Confederate
> Heritage supporter to be
> this Saturday than at Beauvoir!
>
>
> Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can
> provide further information
> and/or motivation regarding your attendance and/or
> participation in this
> cherished MS Division tradition!
>
> Sincerely,
>
