You guys are asking the wrong man, This current brouhaha is something I have not been following. I know there was a schism earlier over the election and each party has his own supporters. I seem to recall one issue in the past was one group was saying the SCV had been taken over by racists and the SCV needed an image change. The other side said yeah but not if it violates the SCV constitution etc. Bear in mind I am going strictly on a fairly faulty memory but IIRC it was apparently a personality conflict that grew out of control. Lots of name calling etc. Of course, a lot of money is at stake as well I believe. Sorry I cannot help you more but if more of this particular story comes to light I will pass it on.
There used to be a 'Save the SCV' web site that voiced such a view, that the organization had been taken over by persons associated with the League of the South and the Conservative Citizen's Councils, putting the organization on a racisit and more active political path. Is that site working or still up? Any more news on this at all?

Seems like the struggle to control the organization is getting very ugly. Thea is a member I think. Thea, any comments or thoughts on this fist fight?

This issue seems to have our SCV camp torn up emotionally. I think Tommy's earlier description might not be far from the general truth. I'm in Sam Davis Camp 1293 in Brentwood, TN. Our local guys may be a bit biased in this matter but certainly appear to be of one accord. I'm not knowledgeable enough to really comment, but there is a restraining order that apparently temporarily displaced the newly elected national commander and several of his cabinet. This was brought about by a group of past commanders who apparently have considerable philosophical difference with those under restraint. I believe there is a hearing, should it happen, scheduled for March 9. My theory is that the truth may lie somewhere in the middle, but that's only a theory. Several states organizations are asking for big bucks for the fight and seem to be somewhat unified against this most recent action. I'm afraid this will get interesting. I'm from the mountains of western North Carolina and descend from several soldiers from both sides of the war as many of you may have concluded by now. Leave me to history and geography. Politics and pettiness ain't often worth the trouble. There's much to be said for celebrating one's heritage, be it blue or gray. Beyond that I'm not so sure.
I have a perspective concerning Tommy's comments about racism and activism. Someone else may have thrown in those words, but this is not directed at anyone, just an expression of what I have felt and seen. The SCV is generally a very mis-understood organization from what I've observed. There are two basic modes of interest from lack of better terms. Many of us are simply interested in the war as a connection to our ancestors and the philosophy and culture of the south that existed at that time. Others are worried, perhaps rightly so, that our current rights to the above stated hobby are being threatened by numerous outside sources, some perhaps imaginied, some perhaps not. Racism, for what it's worth (very little) is not an accepted concept nor interest to SCV members that I know. These guys are truly interested in heritage, believe it or not. Some defend that heritage more emotionally than others. I think that might be the root of the problem.
I know one Afro-American whose ancestry traces back to a white Confederate. Their white relatives attended a family reunion and invited them to join the SCV. No one accepted.
