I don't know if this particular statistic is worth very much.

If you ask people whether they consider themselves Southerners, they are going to respond on the basis of what <u>they</u> think a Southerner is.

If the person who conducted the study then writes an article saying that a certain percentage of people don't think they are what <u>the author</u> thinks a Southerner is, that may not be at all the same thing as what the people who responded to the survey thought they were saying.

Maybe the author should have asked is how many of the folks in the South consider themselves Confederates?
