Mike, this one is an old story for me. For years, local reenactment groups have held the Battle of Buffington Island on the same site, trying to draw attention to the fact this site is about to disappear. It sickens me that we are going to plow under and use the bones of at least 35 Confederate dead as gravel an assault on some county road for greed's sake. As for the idea that this battle was merely a 'calvary charge' the man doesn't know what he's talking about. The battle of Buffington Island was FOUGHT by units of the Navy, Infantry, Calvary, Artillery, and Militia. No, our State representatives don't want to know all the facts in case in might interfere with another type of tax base or vote-getting jobs ( about a dozen) the gravel pit will produce. God help the State of Ohio, because it won't even help itself.
