Default Ladies footwear

Can any one help me? I want to know what is the best type of footwear to have in a living history camp?
I have been re-enacting for 10 years with various styles of victorian low heal (1-2.5inch) ankle boots or brogans. I vary which ones to wear depending on how muddy our camp is and if I'm likely to twist my ankle!
We are debating around the camp at the moment what was worn as 'working' footwear.

Just to let you know I'm in England, UK and as you may know our weather can be somewhat wet in summer or even SNOW in MAY! As our re-encatment season runs Easter to October we need to be prepared for anything!

Any help would be great thanks

Dear lady, I know what you mean about snow in May. It's happened to me, too, here in the Golden West of the USA!

Fugawee carries authentic footwear for women (as well as men). Their website is http://www.fugawee.com/ They have examples of the original shoes that theirs are patterned after.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info. Nice to know that elastic was used on shoes and now I can argue back to all the 'authentic nutters' at my camp that we can wear jodhpur boots!

Dear lady, sometimes practicality must trump authenticity. The grim truth for those affectioniately known as "stitch Nazis" is that they go home from an event in their car or truck just like the rest of us. We do the best with what we have.
