Default New dress for my neice.

This fall I hope my niece will help me a few more times. I am thinking about having a secession dress made for her this time. How does this sound?

Sounds good to me! Where would you be having it done? I know Kay Gnagey does a GREAT job on childrens as well as adult womens dresses.

I am not too sure just yet on who I am going to get to make the dress. My nice is now 13 and past the kids clothes and is now in the lower end of the ladies dress sizes.
I updated my newphew by giving him one of the faded depot jackets off of my rack. He can go buy his own musket.

Mark my wife is a seamstress... not fast work but authentic and nice to look at @ IMO way too cheap. If you're interested drop me a PM and I'll pas on her email & phone #.

Regardless Elizibeth Clark from the AC has increadible patterns and is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject alive today.

Good Luck

Even still, a young lady of 13 will dress much differently than a young lady of say, 20. Skirts are shorter and they have more variations (short sleeves, open "boat" necklines, back opening dresses, etc.).

Elizabeth Stewart Clark has MANY patterns that are wonderful I used hers for my first dress with no prior sewing experience and didn't have any problems

Do check out ESC's patterns. She also has a forum if you have any questions about the patterns (www.thesewingacademy.org)

Mrs. Clark is a neighbor of mine (she lives in Idaho Falls and I live in Twin Falls). She's been extremely helpful to me and others I know, sending long and thorough Emails in answer to specific questions.

I took one of her Sewing Academy classes a few years ago and experienced many "Aha!" moments. We practiced gauging, hand-sewed buttonholes, and learned about period clothing construction. I'd recommend her classes and products to anyone.

I am going to do some horse tradeing with a frined of mine who makes the 1860's dress who a confederate uniform made for her son. I think can find someone who can do that.
