Default Fyi

Some of the civil war dress makers are selling dress made out of "China Silk" Just to let you know that China Silk is a buzz word for Polyester. We all know that Polyester is not a period fabric. I just wanted to pass this info on to yall

Eeek. Thank for the warning. There is nothing worse than being in yards of non-breathing fabric that could melt if it gets to close to fire. :O

Default The love of cotton

I haven't heard the name "China silk" but polyester should be fairly distinguishable by feel when we encounter it. It tends to be slightly more stretchy than our beloved cotton and just a bit heavier....and who wants heavy in the field? Besides stretchy doesn't matter if you're wearing a corset. Right ladies? The only draw is that it doesn't wrinkle in the suitcase as much, but after wearing it for a few hours in the right humidity, the wrinkles in cotton fall right out, so we can love it oh so much again.
