I am always in favor of flounce, as least as it applies to the ladies.

Dear Gentlemen -
Please be aware that a lady can flounce as well in her corded petti as in a 6 ring hoop - as the intrigue of the motion begins with the hips.

As for Miss O'Hara - well, her Mammy kept telling her to dress and act like a lady and not a (head strong) child. I recall her "younger" clothing being flounced, but not her more mature items.

Also - Katie is typically the familar for Katheryn - or Catherine, although in Miss O'Hara's case, I am not sure.

Miss Amy

Katheryn
I'm thinking the Irish preference would have been Kathryn as opposed to Catherine. Any Irishers out there?

Well, my best guess would be Kathleen, as that is the more common of those names for us of the Irish type. My best friend is Kathleen, and known as Katie.

I don't think that "flouncing" would have worked here in Texas. Too much dust out on the frontier.

That is far more accurate than my observation. I was blinded by the difference between Kathryn and Catherine. Of course it would have been Kathleen.

Sometime back on this thread, one of the good ladies described the "flounce" rather eloquently as Scarlett did in GWTW. Turning quickly for the twist and stepping off smartly for the founce. The flounce today might be replaced by a singularly digital gesture, accompanied with a string of angry words the volume of which diminishes as the flouncer gains distance.

I believe it was little old me who described that flounce (or a version of it!) , and I am a master at it. I find it gets a lot more results than any, ahem, digital gestures, and leaves members of the opposite sex a bit flustered if one tosses in the over the shoulder 'look', and you KNOW which look I mean.

Oh yes, flouncing would have been far more effective and ladylike. Too bad flouncing as an expressive tool is no longer available. My own particular Dear One is a master of the "look," but she couldn't flounce to save her soul. Getting slapped is defensible, getting flounced is beyond simple shame.
