do you make your own dresses, or do you purchase them?

I am thinking about getting a dress, but they are expensive, and couldn't sew a stitch to save my life.

If you're going to Nationals, talk to Jackie Wakeling at Past Reflections in Suter's Row. She makes dresses, and knows what she's talking about!

Thanks Tassie. Mike keeps asking me to post, so I am really trying to not start cut and dry topics. It isn't easy! LOL!

Dressmaking is easier than you think.

I am not even old enough to drive yet, but I have made every one of my outfits- Satin day/evening dress, cotton camp/work dress, cotton day/evening dress, Vivandiere uniform(Confederate-all wool), and a cape. I have also made all of my underpinnings.. And I am sure you KNow what those are.... And I won 1st with my cotton day dress(green plaid, pagoda sleeves, it's just plain gorgeous!)

If you want to make your own, I will readily answer any questions you have, to the best of my ability. I don't know of many people who make dresses for other people(though I myself am considering to start), but I do know one lady. She is in the 14th kentucky Artillery, USA. If you would like to contact her, email me, and I will see if I can get ahold of her for you.

Very cool, Ardyth, I wish I could sew, but I have so many other things that take up too much of my time.
