I know we had this going before, and once again I can't find where it went, but here is a substitute for coffee:

Barley Coffee: Roast one pint of common barley in the same way in which coffee is roasted. Add two large spoonfuls of this to a quart of boiling water; boil five minutes. Add a little sugar

Add chickory or willow bark to any coffee beans to help your supply last longer...
