Ladies:
These next few days will be spent in celebration of my Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and I remain in awe of the panorama that surrounds me at this time of year, and for the many blessings in my life. I love my country, and in particular, my neighbours to the South.
Since I am spending a traditional Thanksgiving Sunday with friends this year, I've been asked to bring dessert, which has never been my speciality. But in the spirit of the holiday and my willingness in venture into the unknown, I found myself offering to bring a homemade pumpkin pie.
I decided to take this one step further and make a traditional pie from the 19th century which has proven to be a daunting task. I've been researching pumpkin pie recipes for the last few days, and there is a plethora of apple pie recipes on the net etc., but I have this vision of me up to my elbows in pumpkin seeds and the smell of pumpkin and cinnamon permeating the air. The pastry is another story!
If anyone has a traditional pumpkin pie receipe from the Civil War era that they wouldn't mind sharing, I would be more than grateful.
