Sorry to be late to the party on this one, but I just ran across this post. If you take all 3 photographs and layer them, you will see that the dust flare is indeed in the same place and configuration in each photograph. The fact that Gettysburg032.jpg has been cropped makes it a bit more difficult to see unless you actually composite them in Photoshop.
Very normal, especially when there is a difference in air temp and camera temp, coupled with dust in or on the lens. Oly's exhibit this quite often, which is why many "ghost hunters" like to carry Oly's. They get a lot of "orb" pictures that way. It's a means of self validation for them. I don't think that you were trying to dupe anyone here. I just think you let your imagination get the best of you. A dark night on the field and you get something odd in your pictures. It does seem creepy at first.
