Default Lincoln Heritage Trail

I am planning a trip in Sept to got to and follow the Lincoln Heritage Trail (more or less). I have never been to his birthplace nor hi boyhood home in IN. I plan to go to the new Lincoln Museum/Library in Springfield. Being from IL, I have been to pretty much all the Springfield sites; I need to know of "must sees" of the beaten path in IL and KY and IN (though in KY and IN, I have to to the "beaten path" attractions to begin with). Any suggestions are appreciated. Matt.

Doesn't the Lincoln Heritage Trail end at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco? If so, why? Never mind. Something ends there but I don't remember what.

The Lincoln Heritage Trail is a convoluted network within Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois which purports to map Lincoln's early life.

Gary, you are thinking of the Lincoln Highway, the "first road across America". It goes from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco (site of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor).

Most of US Route 30 and portions of Interstate 80 now travels the same general corridor from New York to San Francisco.

Gary, if you are planning on going on the trail, there is one location that is a bit off of it but would add a lot of intrest to your trip. In Harrogate, Tn is located Lincoln Memorial University. There they have a large number of Lincoln items and writings. In fact a large museum and library that has thousands of visitors each year.

Harrogate is located on US 25E just across the Virginia state line in the Cumberland Cap. They also have a good collection of area civil war information. If you go there, please visit the National park in Middlesboro, Ky and the town of Cumberland Cap. I have heard that they have some of the Mullus collection there also.

At the far back of the school, located on a large hill, sits Grant-Lee Hall. It is a three story building that was used as a dorm when I went to school there. It was fun being one of 5 yankees in that school at the time.
