Magnificent images RebAl. Thank you. Beautiful, it certainly looks worth the visit!

I was at the Lee Chapel maybe 5 or 6 years ago and yes, you could go down to the lower level and view the crypt where Robert E. and other members of the Lee family are interred. And if you walk just outside the door, you find Traveler's final resting place.
The sculpture of which RebAl took such good pictures is upstairs from the crypt.
IIRC, a statue of a gentleman in 19th century garb stands elsewhere on the Washington & Lee campus. Many people walk past and think it is another statue of Robert E. Lee, but in fact it is a statue of Cyrus McCormick, the farm machinery magnate, who gave a good deal of money to the college.
As Jamieva points out, Lexington is truly a treasure trove for those interested in the Civil War.
I can recall visiting not only the Lee Chapel and Lee's office on the Washington & Lee campus, but also Stonewall Jackson's home, church, and burial site, as well as the campus of VMI, the graves of the VMI cadets killed in the charge at New Market, and the VMI Museum, all in a single day's visit.
Alas, one of the handicaps of being a westerner (I do indeed love my beautiful Puget Sound!) is that we are so very far away from the civil war battlefields which are so meaningful to visit.
Thanks for sharing the great photos.

It should go without saying that although I am a proud member of the military, my posts in no way reflect the official policies of the USAF or the United States government.
