Default I can only add my hearty recommendation here...

Lee Chapel is truly one of my favorite CW spots. The first time I was there I was so in awe of the statue of the Recumbant Lee that I missed his church pew down in the main part of the chapel. My husband and I went down to the crypt and then also the museum (my favorite artifact is the papers returning Lee's citizenship, signed by Ford and Rockefeller).
Halfway on the road to Appomatox my husband says, "Say, I was surprised you didn't sit in General Lee's church pew." Well, I started to get all teary eyed at the missed opportunity but he promised me we'd go back another time. A couple of summers later we did, and I got to sit where the General sat every day for services. It was very special to do so.
Later we walked all over VMI, and that was also a great experience.
In town there is a good coffee shop, and they sell a type of coffee called The Two Generals Blend. Highly recommended!

I visited the Chapel this year and was told that the reclining statute of Lee shows Lee at rest (and not daid as a daw-knale). The Chapel is free to the public and is well worth seeing. The crypt below holds Lee and the immediate members of his family. Traveller is just outside the exit (bring pennies to lay by Traveller). Jackson is right up the street so bring a peach (peaches, not lemons were Fool Tom's favorite). Don't miss out on Mark, Matthew, Luke & John either. The VMI museum is closed, but the Marshall Museum is open and they have one gallery with the VMI museum's collection on display. Saw Jack's raincoat there. Don't miss out on Old Jack's home either.

I've been told that persimmons were actually his favorite.

You know, it could have been avocados from California for all we know. Betcha it's whatever the farmer who's pushing his crops says it is. We're all victims of marketing.
