With apologies to Matthew, 19:24.

You are at the very least consistent! Not all Southerners apologize for the effort in the war. Slavery as you know had MUCH to do with the war, just not ALL to do with the war.

"I liken the slavery of the 19th century to the legal practice of abortion today. Is it a great evil? Many would say yes. However, like it or not, the practice is still legal and accepted in this country. In two centuries would it be fair to brand all Americans as murderers or accessories to murder because they didn't fight to end this brutal practice, or because they tolerated its existence?"

Thoughtful.

Actually had a heated discussion with a young african american law school friend of my daughters. Very much for abortion and of course very much against slavery. My wife got us to agree not to continue so we could have a pleasent dinner. She also couldn't understand how my daughter had turned out so well being raised by a "Military Redneck with confederate Leanings"

PINCKNEYUSMCRET,

I started this thread in order to record some original quotes made by this board's members concerning the Civil War, the one's that made me think, ponder and laugh. In other words, the ones I consider true gems of original thinking on the subject we all love to talk and argue about.

I have no objection to anyone coming here and listing their observations, thoughts and views over the quotes listed here and invite other members to post what they feel is an original quote by their fellow board members.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

"Unfortunately as with most thing done with passion and little thought or not enough thought, the lack of a supply chain was not top on the Confederate Governments list in the beginning. However just like teenagers having babies reality sets in. They didn't think it would last as long as it did, and they just couldn't support it and there were no grand parents to help."

Default R. E. Lee

The consolidation of the States into one vast empire, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of ruin which has overwhelmed all that preceded it.
