Mud in Middle Tennessee On June 24th, 1863, General Rosecrans started his offensive in middle Tennessee. With a faint to his right on Shelbyville, and the rapid deployment through the gaps on his left, he almost took Bragg by from the flank and rear. Had it not been for the steady rain that started on the 23rd and lasting for 17 days, causing the roads to turn into a sea of mud, could have the AOTC cornered Bragg and smashed his army?
