Civil War History - "What if..." DiscussionsWhat if they had attacked instead of digging in...? What if he was in charge of the army instead...? Did you ever have a "What if..." question, and you weren't sure where to post it? Here's the place to ask these speculative questions!
John Hunt Morgan… we all know of him in some way or another. Well, he and Mattie Ready of Murfreesboro TN had only ONE child, Johnnie Hunt Morgan.
Well, about nine years ago I was trying to finance a film about Morgan’s life and his raids, and it fell through. But I came across a descendant of Mattie’s in Nashville, and I ended up holding in my hands, Johnnie’s own scrapbook she made of her father’s raids and what the newspapers reported about him years after his death. I thought her life had a story to tell all unto itself. The heartache a daughter must have lived with… not having her father around (he died eight months before she was born) really compelled me, so I wrote a story centering on her own "what if" experiences.
Johnnie Hunt Morgan died of typhoid fever at such an early age, 22. I always thought that was a rip off… deprived of so many things, and then to have her life cut off at such a young age. In fact, Johnnie’s grave in Lebanon, TN depicts a tree cut in half. (I’ve been there.)
So…
I wrote a screenplay about a "what if" story having Johnnie Hunt Morgan brought here to the 21st century… a mishap in time & space, but in terms of fate and destiny, maybe this is God’s way of giving a poor young girl another chance at a happy prosperous life?
For the past year, this story has been mapped out and planned as a independent motion picture, which is shooting in less than two weeks. So its not really anything to do with the Civil War per se, but definitely one of the consequences of it. I’ve hired a professional Director of Photography out of New York to shoot this, and managed to pull together every resource I can here in Indianapolis to tell this incredible tale of "what if" for Johnnie Morgan. You can read all about the film and our story here at our website.
Keep in mind its pure fiction, folks. I’m not trying to re-write history here. But as I’m sure we’ve all thought of at one time or another, having someone from the 19th century brought here, and to see the things we see on a daily basis… wow… what a fantastic concept, and a possibility for a truly beautiful story. It’s similar to ‘Somewhere in Time’.
I’ll be sharing more about this film, A Time for the Heart, with you all as we make progress.
Sounds like an exciting project Rasco. Break a leg.
Ole
