Please pardon me Gentlemen. I was thinking of Europeans and light bulbs, not garters. As you all know, our little censorial friend doesn't miss much. It's the times when he attacks the innocent that he is the most irritating. Much like Sherman in Georgia, I guess.

Just my very tardy two cents, Pap's fine qualiies as a defensive spe******t and manager of an army does not equate to having the qualities it took to put Lee's and the CSA's nuts in a vice that was necessary to bring the war to a more prompt conclusion.
Spartan
Thomas may or may not have been a match for Lee. I suspect that old Slow Trot would have frustrated Lee Big Time. He was not easily rattled or pushed into making rash decisions -- a Lee technique. At the same time, Thomas was doggone good at reading a situation and being ready for what he expected. Although he wouldn't have pressed Lee overmuch, he would have been quite capable of meeting Lee anywhere Lee would have moved. Although not given to take the initiative, he was very capable of frustrating any initiative taken against him.
Just a thought.
