Event Date: 6-9-1854
Event Description: Captain US Grant Arrives at West Point and assumes his duty for the summer secession at the Military Academy, where for the next several years he will teach, ride, write tactics, and befriend the new Camp Superintendent Robert E Lee


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 3-4-1857
Event Description: Grant is ordered West to take command of a Battalion of the 1st Dragoon Regiment in Kansas, here he will fight Indians and Insurrectionists from both the Pro- and Anti-Slavery Factions of the "Bleeding Kansas" affair.

Event Date: 1-22-1858
Event Description: Grant is promoted to Major and given the post of Executive Officer of the 1st Dragoons

Event Description: Lincoln is sworn in as President, already many states have seceded and Joined the Confederate States of America

Event Date: 4-12-1861
Event Description: Under the Orders of CS President Jeff Davis P.G.T. Beauregard begins a bombardment of Ft. Sumter in Charleston Harbor, the Civil War has begun

Event Date: 4-20-1861
Event Description: Major US Grant is promoted to a Colonel of Volunteers and given command of the 2nd New Hampshire Volunteer Regiment, which under his command will become the "Best Drilled Unit in the Army of Northeastern Virginia"

Event Date: 7-21-1861
Event Description: At the Battle of Bull Run Grant's men of the 2nd New Hampshire served in the earliest hours of the battle before being put in reserve. They became famous though as the roughed Army began the retreat Grant's Well trained men formed a rear guard, which inflicted high casualties on the Confederate Cavalry who attack, and even wounded Col. JEB Stuart, who would make a full recovery


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 8-1-1861
Event Description: Grant is promoted to Brigadier General and placed in charge of several regiments, in the Washington Area as George McClellan begins to reorganize the Army, now the Army of the Potomac. Over the next several months Grants Brigade will be brought back to strength and trained. McClellan begins to prepare for an upcoming campaign


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 3-13-1862
Event Description: General Order 101 create the II Corp of the Army of the Potomac, Brigadier General US Grant is placed in Command


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 3-17-1862
Event Description: Grant's New Command begins to be transported by Ship to Fort Monroe at the beginning of the Peninsula Campaign


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 3-23-1862
Event Description: Most of the Army of the Potomac has arrived at the area around Fort Monroe, but McClellan procrastinates and demands more men, during the waiting Grant knows that the confederates are bringing more men to the theater, he remains quite though, not willing to criticize his commander in Public


Timeline Number: 3871
Event Date: 4-1-1862
Event Description: Lincoln Growing Impatient orders McClellan to March on Richmond, the General Refuses to move unless he is given more men. At this Lincoln orders his transfer to New York, he is removed from Command and demoted to Colonel, he promotes Ulysses Grant to Command the Army of the Potomac and promotes him to Major General

There are those alternate Civil War books written by Newt Gingrich starting with I believe Gettysburg and then Grant Comes East.

Thanks for the interesting website. I love "what ifs," of history, but not when future students ask me, "what if I get in trouble in class..." Just don't!!! lol
