Default Athens Alabama September 23, 1864

On the night of September 23 , 1864, 2nd Lt. John Wesley Andes of the 2nd Tennesse Cavalry had a very close brush with fame. For on that dark night in Athens, lit only by fires set in town, Andes and his men found themselfs looking through a window at General N. B. Forrest was having his evening dinner, along with his staff.

If Andes had taken him captive or even killed the General, what effect could that have had on Hoods march to Franklin and Nashville or for that matter, would it have effected the entire Army Of Tennessee at that point?

Could the AOT have been distroyed before reaching the south bank of the Tennessee after Nashville, if Forrest had not been the rear guard?

I failed to mention that there were two 2nd Tennessee units involved in this action. The one is mentioned in the above post was Union. Both units crossed paths that night with out incident. They even had vocal contact with each other.
