Matthew,
Jackson and Taylor were also celebrated military heroes who owned large plantations.Even if Lincoln didn't have all of these Republican ideas I don't think he would've appealed to the Southern populace one bit.Davis had some detractors,but imagine if he deported a member of Confederate Congress for speaking against the war like Lincoln did.Both had their flaws but I'm fairly confident if you switch them you would get the same result.Davis wasn't as bad as some poeple think he was in my opinion,nor was Lincoln anything extraordinary.
