I guess the reason I can't let this go is that I drive by the Franklin battlefield every other week or so and pass through the gap at Brentwood usually twice a day. I'm still trying to learn what these hills can tell me about the past and the men who fought so close to my home. Three of my ancestors were near this place at the time of the battles, so I can feel a connection somewhere in my bones. I doubt the gallant Forrest could have taken Nashville, nor would he have been dumb enough to try.

For me its not a fact of letting go, Its the fact of never forgetting.

History has a way of being forgotten and Its up to us to light our torch or candle and pass on the flame to as many others as possible before our on flame burns out.

I thank you for your kind comments Larry. Your Passion is just as strong as mine and many others on this board its up to us to pass on the flame that was passed on to us by those like Shelby Foote and Brian Pohanka.

I think Mr. Hood had some kind of a martyr complex. I think he cared less about his troops that he did about riding in to some glory, dead or alive.

He might have by by-passed that place altogether, not wasting a large part of his force, and approached Nashville from a different direction. But he was a bull headed straight ahead type of guy.
