Now Thea and Shane,

One line is OK, more than one line is OK. I just asked to finish the following sentence, but put no limit on where a person could go.

I am very amused and tickled by some of the responses, and some of them are quite thought-provoking. George, Shane and Gary, interesting, Thea, surprising, Tommy, ouch! Please keep them coming.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

...the Republican Party, indelibly associated with the loss of the war and the failure to preserve the Union, soon vanished forever from the American political scene.

"President Davis was pleased with the treaty worked out with President McCellan. He was loud in his praise for General Price and his stunning victory at St. Louis in September 1864, dooming Lincoln's re-election hopes."

. . and only lasted until 1869, when the great slave revolt captured Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi and seceded from the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis stated that secession was treason, and declared war on the rebel states.

Here's one:

...and immediately froze all the Northern banks until such time as ALL their assets could sufficiently compensate Southerners who immediately freed all the slaves and sent as many as wished to live up North by train; the South then retreated to their own territory and set about restructuring their way of life with hired help and left the Northerners to do the same.

Or this one:

...and immediately rounded up all the upper level military personnel; for every 10 of them they were given ONE forty acre parcel of land in any state they chose together and were given 200 dollars to start life anew together on those forty acres from which they could not ever leave without permission of the Southern government; naturally Lincoln, his cabinet, Sherman, Sheridan and Butler were grouped together to share their forty acres in Rhode Island with only Mary Todd Lincoln there to offer entertainment with her seances.

"...140 years later, proving that the south could hold a grudge, the South still hated the north. In an effort to pacify the South; US leaders gave as a gift the talented film director Michael Moore. The South recognizing a joke when they saw one politely passed Mr Moore on to the English and the English proving their impeccable taste were kind enough to pass him on to the French, who immedietly cannonized him and built a monument adjacent to Napoleans tomb."
