RLQ, the info I have shows them w/ Spencer carbines & Josyln Revolvers and they had them prior to Allatoona so it's most likely those troopers were ready & waiting for somebody to bum rush the Eastern redoubt.

They traded their Sharps carbines for Spencers when they returned from furlough & IIRC their carbines went to the 3rd USCT Cav but I'm not certain on that.

Hello Shane,

Thanks for the information! I wasn't sure if they had swapped their Sharps for the Spencers before Allatoona or after the battle.

From what I understand, the 5th Ohio Cavalry was picketing the Etowah River during this time, and that this detachement was assigned to the Allatoona garrison.

I have seen documented Spencers that were issued to members of the 5th Ohio, but I don't know if these were issued post Allatoona Pass or not.
RLQ1, did you mean this photo of the 5th OVC?

I don't know when the 5th get the Spencer Carbine, but the only known Henry Rifle was the one of Maj.J.C.Smith.
SN.1100
It was sold 2004 for $97,750.

Hello Southern Son, that is the very picture! Thanks for also posting the Henry rifle pictures. The 5th Ohio Cavalry is one of my favorite Federal units to research, and I knew nothing of this presentation rifle.

Default Iowa and Illinois Monuments Dedicated

This weekend, members of the GA Division of Reenactors participated in an encampment and dedicated the Iowa and Illinois monuments. Joey and his troops did an excellent job at the battlefield! Attached are photos of the Illinois and Iowa monuments.

Thank you for the pics, Alattona has literally become my passion. The terrain, the fortifications and the men... an increadible engagement.
