The 10th TN Cavalry mustered out of service. The war for James Patterson Cockerham was finally over. He was headed for Wilkes County, North Carolina and a reunion with his large family. That family was to grow larger as he and Amelia took it as a personal challenge to replenish the population of the south. They died in 1920 and 1922 respectively and are buried in Mitchell County, Iowa.
