Phillippi Whitworth, glad to see you back! There was certainly no developed strategy to deal with a naval attack from the northern states. Some Tennessee farmers with a couple of week's prior practice blasted a few gunboats from the shore at Dover and later at Kelly's Point just west of Nashville on the Cumberland. Forrest lobbed a few shells into the complex at New Johnsonville in 1864, but that's about it except for the skirmishes around Vicksburg, I believe, rather early in the war. Pardon me for digressing here, but I'm curious if you can tell me any more about Phillippi, West Virginia. I'm a Phillippi descendant, a large family traced back into 16th century Bavaria.
