Does anyone know where confederate soldiers who died that day may have been buried. I assume near Nashville. Any advise anyone could give me to help me find his grave or to find records of his service would be much appreciated.
If they were formally buried, there is a good chance that the city cemetery on Chestnut St. or Mt. Olivet on Lebanon Road would be their resting place.
The Nashville Historic Commission will have a list of city cemetery occupants and Mt. Olivet probably has the same at their office. I'm not really familiar with soldiers buried at either one, aside from a few generals, etc. because my folks were lucky enough to survive Nashville. I haven't looked but I suspect Mt. Olivet has a website since it is still in operation. The city cemetery is just east of Fr. Negley, not near the battle but one of the older cemeteries. Mt. Olivet would have required transportation since it is a few miles further away. There were no mass graves that I'm aware of.

Default 1st Alabama

If you'll post your ancestor's name with the 1st Alabama, we'll do some digging. Steven Cone may know about these folks already. I have some research contacts.

Thanks Larry for your interest in helping with my search. My ancestors name was Nathaniel Dudley Massey, the NPS website shows him to be a Private of Co. I, 1st Regiment, Alabama Infantry. Thanks again for your trouble.

Here's something that may help a bit. Since many of the soldiers killed at Nashville went eventually to Mt. Olivet cemetery, I would certainly exhaust that objective. A gentlemen at our last Sam Davis camp meeting (SCV) made a quick presentation of a hard copy from a database that is currently going online from the Metro Nashville Archives. Supposedly to be up and running this month! What I saw was a rather long list! Go to nashville.gov and look for the archives website. I'll do the same and get back to you.
