Default Johnny Clem sighting
Found this in a published letter:

A "marker" (flag bearer) from the 22nd Mich. rode with us. He has beeninthe service 2 years. Was at Shiloh & other battles & is only 12 years old. His is about the size of Johnny & his name is Johnny Clem. He ran away from home on account of his step-mother. He writes to his father every week.

Read some of the entries and I've seen some of them before. I didn't know he received a direct appointment from President-Lt. Gen. Grant.

I am not, per se, a Johnny Clem fan. However, when I spot these little oddities of interest, I like posting them so that others may also enjoy them. Somehow by weaving all these loose threads together, a story emerges and sometimes it's a grand one too. This is the approach I've used for my own research on the blackpowder sharpshooter.

Ahhh, dear old John Clem! I was actually born in the town where he is originally from, Newark, Ohio. I have seen the site of his home, though it is now a gas staion . He is quite a character. It has been awhile since I have looked him up, so my facts on him are iffy, but it seems alot of his exploits were made up or exagerated. Interesting fellow though. Survived all the way up to the beginning of WWI and was a Major General. Talk about a life!

Elvis is hiding with Marilyn Monroe. She's been in hiding at Area 51 ever since she shot JFK from the Grassy Knoll. She was aiming for Jackie (classic American love triangle), missed and hit John instead. That's all I can say before they come after me.
