I recently uncovered an old book of my fathers. Written by Robert Frazer Forts of the West details almost every US Army fort west of the Mississippi up to 1898. It's an informative though at times dry read. There are a lot of snippets of CW history there.
I thought it might be a novel idea to showcase some of the CW actions and activities in the SW. I'll be posting info as I find it.

Ft Barrett, Est 4/19/62. Located at the Pima villages on the South side of the Gila River, above the mouth of the Santa Cruz near prsent town of Sacaton. Est by 1st California Inf & elements of the California Colmn en route to New Mexico. Earthwork fortifications at Ammi White Flour Mill. Served as a sub depot & supply station. Named for 2nd Lt James Barrett, 1st CA Cav killed near Picacho pass on 4/15/62. Abandoned 8/23/62.
