Default Happy new year

December 31, 1864 Lee’s Corps was in camp in Burnsville, Mississippi. The various corps of the Army of Tennessee sought much needed rest in Burnsville, Rienzi and Corinth before re-assembling at Tupelo.

While you celebrate the advent of the new challenging year, please pause and reflect on the sacrificies and hardships encountered by this small southern army in 1865. Not the highlight of their lives. The end of some and a new beginniing for others going into the next phase. If you folks can wade through it, I'll start another brief thread in the new year.

"Most of this (the Confederate part) came from the records of Cheatham's Corps."

How does one obtain these records?

Default Journall of the Army of Tennessee

After writing much of the first chapter or so of my book describing my connection to a couple of ancestors on both sides of the issue in middle Tennessee in 1864, I began Using the Journal of the Army of Tennessee, because it was written in a chronological format with basic events as a guide to begin augmenting that information with tidbits from many different sources including my own site visits and interviews with other researchers, etc. The basic data is from the official record:

http://www.civilwarhome.com/cheatham...ynashville.htm

It's becoming increasingly interesting to began comparing reports from various officers after the fact from both sides. Lots of events simply looked differently depending on the bias used for the description. Thomas and Harrison had a much different perspective than Forrest and Hood. I hope you're also reading some of the 'updated' material in the other thread about the battle of Nashville recently.
